Plans for the near future

Hi all,

I have successfully defended my master thesis "Study on Arabic weblogs".

I am grateful to the people that encourages me to develop a system for collecting Arabic blogs and building the Arabic blogs dataset.

I have good news, from now and on, I will dedicate my free time to report about the experiments that I have conducted on Arabic blogs. Basically , experiments on automatic identification of Arabic dialects in Arabic blogs. Besides, other experiments on topic (automatic) identification in blog posts. All my reports will be found in the Arabic blogs wiki

Furthermore, the Arabic blogs dataset will be extended. I will be working the coming months on enlarging the number of blogs in the dataset. I am planning to build a dataset that can represent 50% or more of the Arabic blogspace.

I have another project in mind combining Arabic blogs and Arabic online news, I will talk about this project in my next posts.

Arabic blogs dataset for free download

the Arabic blogs datset consists of approximately 12.000 Arabic blogs containing a number of posts that exceeds 120.300 posts. The oldest blog post in the dataset dates back to 2002. The dataset contains also relevant blog data.

The blog data consist of information about blogs such as title, description, and URL address. In addition, it consists of blog posts data like author's name, date of publication, and content of the post.

Blogging communities in the Arab Gulf countries

This list contains the direct links to blog aggregators of the Arab Gulf countries. Further, I list the country, the amount of blogs found in its aggregator and the link to it.

Msn spaces are very known in the Arab world. There exist many Arabic msn spaces. I know for the moment two counts for Arabic msn spaces. These counts contain more than 900 links to msn spaces from different Arabic countries.

Cette fois on va dire quelques mots sur les blogs Maghrébins. Tou ce que je vais faire c'est de citer les annuaires des blogs au Maghréb.

There exist 4 major blog service providers that allow users to create blogs in Arabic Language.

• The oldest Arabic provider for free blog services is called Jeeran. This service has a blogging community with more than 35000 blogs. It is considered to be the biggest blog service provider in the Arab world. Jeeran doesn't only support various features to attract new bloggers, but it enables subscribers to publish and share their photos with other users, gives a free disk space to create home pages and provides free e-mail services for communication.

• One of the famous Arabic weblog service providers is called Maktoob. As far as I know, Maktoob has the second biggest collection of blogs from the whole Arab world. This collection is estimated to count more than 7000 blogs. the totality of blogs in Maktoob are in Arabic however it is very possible that some blogs could contain posts in English or French.

• Blogger dot com is one of the oldest and famous blog service providers. Users might use this provider to create blog in Arabic without running in problems related to Arabic language encoding. Blogger dot com gives the possibility to store all posts in UTF-8 which is a universal type font that interprets Arabic font correctly. Moreover, Blogger dot com might be hosting more than 3000 Arabic blogs. Most of these blogs have posts in English, Arabic and French.

Blogotour 2007 - Bloggeurs marocains en conférence.

Bonjour,
je viens de lire sur une activité exceptionnelle des bloggeurs Marocains: Le Blogotour 2007.
le blogotour est une série de conférences qui a eu lieu dans 6 villes marocaines ( Marrakech, Fez, Rabat, Casablanca , el Jadida et Agadir).
L' objectif de cette activité est de introduire et vulgariser l’utilisation des blogs au Maroc.
